How does carbon absorption work?

What Happens During Carbon Absorption

Activated carbon is extremely useful in purifying both the water and air. Usually it is used in very fine powder or granular. Since it is an extremely porous material, activated carbon has particular affinity to organic materials such as solvents used in printing inks and common coatings. When the carbon particle becomes saturated with the contaminant, the exit stream will evidence a higher level of that contaminant. This is the time that the filter will be replaced and/or reactivated. The waste stream usually can't be interrupted during this regeneration, therefore two or more carbon beds are often designed into the system
